Nominator's project description

Professor Milner is an experimental nuclear physicist of highest international reputation and one of the worldwide leading experts in the spin structure of the nucleon. His research focus has been to understand the strong interaction, one of the four fundamental interactions of nature, using innovative experimental techniques. He co-originated the HERMES experiment at the electron-proton storage ring HERA in Hamburg and was a key scientist in bringing the experiment to success. During his stay in Germany he will lead the new OLYMPUS experiment at DESY. The experiment aims to definitively determine the effect of two-proton exchange in elastic lepton-proton scattering.
